Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of the garden center operations including sales, inventory management, and staff supervision.
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase sales and enhance customer satisfaction.
  • Manage and train staff, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
  • Maintain a well-stocked and visually appealing garden center.
  • Oversee and assist with garden center plant care and maintenance.
  • Maintain relationships with suppliers and manage purchasing decisions.
  • Provide expert advice to customers on plant care, gardening techniques, and product selection.
  • Organize workshops, events, and promotions to engage the community and attract new customers.
  • Monitor trends in the gardening industry and adjust offerings accordingly.

Qualifications and Skill Requirements

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in horticulture, agriculture, business management, or a related field preferred.
  • 1+ years of experience in retail management, preferably in a garden center or nursery.
  • Strong knowledge of plants, including pest and disease management, gardening supplies, and landscaping techniques.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to drive sales and manage budgets.
  • A passion for gardening and a commitment to customer service.

Landscape Designer/Salesperson

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with clients to understand their vision, preferences, and budget for their landscape project.
  • Create detailed landscape designs using industry-standard design software or hand-drawn sketches including plant selection, hardscapes, irrigation, and lighting plans.
  • Present design concepts to clients providing clear information and guidance about plant selection and materials, pricing, and timelines.
  • Oversee the landscape team to ensure designs are delivered in a timely manner and completed according to design specifications while maintaining project budgets and deadlines.
  • Provide exceptional customer service throughout the project lifecycle, from initial consultation to project completion.
  • Maintain accurate client records and project documentation.
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients to ensure repeat business and referrals.
  • Generate new business through inbound and outbound sales efforts, networking, and attending industry events.
  • Stay current with landscaping trends, techniques, and materials.

Qualifications and Skill Requirements

  • Certificate, associate or bachelor’s degree in landscape design, landscape architecture, horticulture, or a related field preferred.
  • Proficient in hand-drawn design sketching or industry-standard design software.
  • Sales experience with a proven track record of achieving or exceeding sales targets.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong knowledge of plants, landscape materials, and sustainable landscape practices.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Landscape Crew Leader

Job Summary

In this position, you’ll work closely with a Landscape Designer supervising crew members in the installation of landscape construction projects, always maintaining the highest level of integrity and professionalism.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Direct and work with crew members performing physical installation work of landscape construction projects.
  • Oversee and ensure that crew has necessary tools and materials to accomplish daily projects.
  • Manage time, productivity, and materials record keeping.
  • Provide consistent and timely communication with customers, crew members, and landscape designer.
  • Ensure adherence to landscape design plans and quality of work.
  • Recommend modifications based on site conditions, client requests, and/or supply issues.
  • Utilize hands-on training techniques and demonstrate a strong work ethic through your example.
  • Maintain a clean and safe job site, promoting performance and well-being of crew members.
  • Direct and work with crew members removing daily debris from trucks and trailers and cleaning trucks and equipment.
  • Maintain and care for company equipment, tools, and vehicles.
  • Work as part of a team and take direction.
  • Perform other tasks or projects as assigned/instructed by our Owner/President.

 

Qualifications and Skill Requirements

  • Must possess strong leadership skills with crew members and ability to effectively communicate with management and customers to meet project deadlines.
  • Must be able to read, understand, and communicate landscape design plans and specification documents.
  • Must be able to effectively and efficiently complete necessary job site and company record keeping.
  • Must possess a valid Missouri driver’s license with a good driving record.
  • Working knowledge of equipment and trucks used in the landscape industry is required.
  • 1-3 years’ experience managing crew members on landscape installations preferred.
  • Plant identification and care knowledge preferred.
  • Ability to work some overtime and weekends as required.

Landscape Crewman/Laborer

Job Summary

In this position, you’ll work closely with a Landscape Crew Leader, and other crew members in the installation of landscape construction projects, always maintaining the highest level of integrity and professionalism.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Required to be at work Monday thru Friday 7:00am – 3:30pm.
  • Responsible for transportation to and from Baxter Gardens West.
  • Perform physical installation work, on a consistent basis, of landscape construction projects. These projects can include tear-out of existing landscape with installation of flowers, shrubs, trees, mulch,
    rock, and hardscapes.
  • Load/Unload daily equipment onto trucks and trailers.
  • Remove daily debris from trucks and trailers.
  • Clean trucks and equipment.
  • Maintain a clean and safe job site and assist other team members in keeping an orderly job site.
  • Maintain and care for company equipment, tools, and vehicles.
  • Work as part of a team and take direction.
  • Understand and meet project schedule deadlines without sacrificing excellent customer service and job
    quality.
  • Perform other tasks or projects as assigned/instructed by crew leader or our owner/president.

Qualifications and Skill Requirements

  • Minimal experience is necessary however, landscape installation experience is desired.
  • Working knowledge of equipment and trucks used in the landscape industry is desired.
  • Willingness to learn from seasoned crew members with on-the-job training.
  • Ability to work some overtime and weekends as required.

Seasonal Retail Sales Associate (Full Or Part Time)

Job Summary

In this position, you’ll work under the guidance of our Garden Center Manager. Seasonal employees work during the spring, summer, and fall months and are off during the winter months.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identify garden center merchandise and plants/trees.
  • Assist customers purchasing trees, shrubs, perennials, annuals, and other merchandise.
  • Positively interact with customers and teammates.
  • Load plants and materials in customer vehicles.
  • Answer the phone.
  • Assist teammates in receiving trees and plant inventory.
  • Restock and price inventory.
  • Watering and plant care.
  • Maintain a clean and safe garden center and nursery.
  • General opening and closing tasks.
  • Work as part of a team and take direction.
  • Other duties associated with the operation of a garden center and nursery as assigned.

Qualifications and Skill Requirements

  • Must be able to stand for long periods of the day.
  • Must be able to lift and carry at least 40 pounds.
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Experience with customer payment transactions and the ability to accurately operate a Point of Sale system is a plus.
  • Basic plant knowledge is a plus. Will train.
  • Ability to work weekends.
